About Temporary Disability Insurance

Temporary Disability Insurance (TDI) provides vital financial support to workers unable to perform their jobs due to non-work-related injuries or illnesses. This insurance covers a portion of the individual’s salary for a limited time, typically ranging from a few weeks to several months, depending on the policy and jurisdiction. TDI is especially important as it helps alleviate the stress of lost wages during recovery, ensuring that individuals can focus on their health rather than financial burdens.

Many states in the U.S. offer TDI programs funded through employee payroll contributions, while some employers provide it as part of their benefits package. The coverage can vary in terms of the percentage of income replaced and the duration of benefits, making it essential for workers to understand their options. Overall, Temporary Disability Insurance serves as a crucial safety net, promoting workforce stability and aiding individuals in navigating unexpected health challenges.

What a nightmare to deal with. To reach them during the day you almost always have to dial out literally 20+ times because you get “line busy” & disconnected. Sometimes you’ll get through the voice prompts and the call will disconnect so you get to do that all over again. Sit on hold in dead silence besides for an occasional Voice message. When they finally answer there’s a 50/50 chance you’re going to receive the correct information, sometimes they’ll tell you you need to do x, you do x, payment day comes & you receive nothing. Call again to find out why & they tell you you needed to do x, y AND z, duh! If you email them anything they don’t even open it for DAYS. All the while you have zero income until they sort it out. If they overpay you though? Takes less than 3 days for them to correct that. And to top it off most days they turn the phone system off early! “Call center representatives are available on Mondays, Tuesdays & Thursdays from 9am to 3:30pm” I was told by the automated system, at 2:58 on a Tuesday & then promptly disconnected. Their attitudes are terrible which is to be expected for RI state employees. But they could at least give you all the info you need if you have to sit through their disdain. I pray to never have to deal with them again, and if I could opt out of paying into it for the future I would, & set up my own safety net vs jumping through their hoops and being treated like a lesser human for 1 TDI claim in 12 working years. They should be ashamed of themselves, but they’re not, because this is Rhode Island.

I am trying to get my benefits for my newborn. I submitted all of my information last month and nobody is picking up the phone to help me or even provide an update. This is ridiculous. Just a waste of time. You cannot ignore people that need benefits to help with recovery. Are you kidding me? I can’t even get assistance with childbirth recovery?!

Why is this place in charge of our money, NO Answer, the automated system sucks and it just hangs up on you no matter the option you pick, all I’m trying to get is my TCI so I can continue paying my bills and take care of mine, before this message I called 72 times and nothing let’s see how many more to go. This is honestly one of the most ridiculous services in the state. It’s so bad it’ll make a handicap person go back to work.

I have been calling since the Beginning of the month and all I keep getting is a machine telling me that they’re not available. I’ve called hours within the hours of operation and still they’re telling me that no one is available and they hang up on me. This is the worst customer service/machine operation ever. Why are you giving people the schedule to call and call but yet your machine hangs up on them. Please do something about this. This is horrible.
