My husband and I have a relationship with State Farm dating back to 1976. When we moved into our home in Olathe, we chose the office of Victor Kim as it was rated well, and close to our home. We are fortunate that we have had very little need to be in contact with our agent as we have had no claims until 2023. In March of 2023 my husband’s windshield was damaged by a rock. It was a new vehicle with a windshield embedded with multiple sensors. As the vehicle was still under warranty, we asked that the dealer be used to replace the glass with manufacturer’s original equipment and do the calibration of the sensors. The claim was approved without question, and the work was completed. In June of 2024 my vehicle was hit by a rock causing damage to the windshield. It was also a new vehicle still under warranty and the same manufacturer as my husband’s. We asked again for the repair to be handled by the dealership. We were told that while State Farm was aware that not using the dealer would void the warranty on my car, the repairs could only be done by State Farm’s preferred vendor, Safelight Auto Glass. For four months we worked with State Farm to change their decision. We provided additional documentation as requested, repeatedly. It needs to be pointed out that at no point did anyone from State Farm look at the vehicle. We were asked to take and upload cell phone photos of the damage. We also had the service manager at the dealer take better quality photos and upload those along with documentation explaining why the repairs needed to be done by the dealership. Throughout this process we had no way to contact the individuals making these decisions and had to rely on agents working out of our local office who claimed to have no authority or ability to influence these decisions. Because the windshield was badly damaged, we finally made the difficult decision to pay out of pocket for the repairs and ask State Farm for reimbursement. After another month of repeatedly being assured that our request was being “escalated” to the next level, and never hearing back from anyone at State Farm, my husband was finally able to get an answer one of the employees at our local office as to whether this reimbursement claim was ever going to be honored. He was told no; we would not be getting our money back. Needless to say, after 48 years of making premium payments which would add up to $200,000 or more on average, and an identical claim being handled with no problem 1 year prior, we were beyond disappointed. We are out a great deal of money, we have no recourse, and perhaps most disappointing of all is that despite all efforts on our part to get assistance from our local office, the person whose name is on the sign above the door, Victor Kim, did not once reach out, or in any way acknowledge the problem or provide assistance. If customer service is your expectation, you will not get it.

Our family has been with Victor’s office for many years. Throughout the years, we have had multiple vehicle policies, a rental policy, a homeowners policy, even a car loan at one point.
